Maken met echt gereedschap bij LOUMA

At LOUMA Workshops’ Maakatelier (making studio), children design and build something that really works, using wood, cardboard, electronics and real tools. All under the guidance of me, Louise, a product designer and furniture maker with experience in arts education.

We work in small groups of no more than 6 children, so everyone gets personal attention and the space to discover things for themselves. Each child goes home with a creation they made and thought up entirely on their own.

The studio runs in themed blocks, each lasting a few weeks. That way you explore something new every time:

Block 1: Stop-motion - bring your own characters to life in a real film

Block 2: Play of Light - experiment with mirrors, shadows, reflections and colours

Block 3: Simple Machines - build something that moves using levers, pulleys and gears

Block 4: Animal Crew - design and build your own (fantasy) animal

Block 5: Printmaking Techniques - discover stamping, printing and making your own patterns

Here children learn to think with their hands: measuring, sawing, gluing, trying, and above all trying again. It’s not about the ‘right’ answer, but about inventing, making and being proud of what you’ve built.

For children aged 6 to 12 who love to build, craft and invent. No prior experience needed, every child takes part at their own level.

The Maakatelier is located in Broedplaats HW10 in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. All materials and tools are included. Wear clothes that are allowed to get dirty! Families on a tighter budget can make use of the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur, feel free to ask about the options.
