Hemlab science year course
At Hemlab, young researchers step into a world full of surprises, where they are introduced to science, physics, chemistry, and biology in a playful manner. Unique in the Zaanstreek and Amsterdam, as there are not many places where children can experiment and conduct research themselves.
In Hemlab’s science year course, your child will experiment and conduct research together with other children on Saturday mornings or Thursday afternoons. The course is structured into 3 thematic blocks of 10 weeks. The worksheets and explanations are in Dutch.
The children work together on the experiments and investigations. Together, the children decide how a theme will be concluded in a special way for parents, family, and friends. For example, with a science quiz, a public lesson, or a demonstration of an experiment of their own choosing.
If your child is unable to attend on a Thursday or Saturday, they can catch up on the lesson in the parallel class on Saturday or Thursday. There is no course during holidays and public holidays, but with the course year pass, your child may participate in a Saturday lab and/or a holiday lab 8 times.
Theme 2026-2027:
- Science course: Color, Light, Rainbow!
Investigate the colors in felt-tip pens, in a phone, in a rainbow. See the colors in tape, soap bubbles. Craft a spectrometer and a kaleidoscope. - Science course: Planet Earth!
Investigate and create a Big Bang, exploding hydrogen, planets, and a rocket. Make the earth shake and craft a volcano. - Science course: Solid Liquid Vacuum Bang!
Discover what happens to ice when you heat it. Draw the clouds in the sky, make your own clouds, and make it rain. Craft a weather bag and a thermometer. Make a can explode with water and ice.
